ELLIS Alicante Celebrates Nuria Oliver’s Recognition at the 8th Edition of the Trifermed Awards for Social Impact in Healthcare

The award highlights her pioneering work in human-centric Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the ELLIS Alicante Foundation

ELLIS Alicante is proud to announce that Dr. Nuria Oliver, Director of the ELLIS Alicante Foundation, has been honored at the 8th edition of the Trifermed Awards for Social Impact in Healthcare. The award ceremony, which took place last night at Auditori AXA Illa Diagonal in Barcelona (Spain), celebrated individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to social responsibility and innovation in healthcare.

Dr. Oliver’s recognition highlights her pioneering work in human-centric artificial intelligence (AI). During the COVID-19 pandemic, she played a critical role in enhancing public health responses in the Valencian region of Spain using AI and Data Science. Additionally, her international advisory roles in AI policy, governance, ethics and safety continue to influence the responsible and socially sustainable development of Artificial Intelligence.

This year’s Trifermed Awards for Social Impact in Healthcare recognized three other outstanding individuals and organizations:

  • Dra. Elena Carreras: A gynecologist and professor at Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron, honored for her groundbreaking work in maternal and fetal health, including preterm birth prevention and intrauterine spina bifida correction.
  • Pere Albajar Viñas: From the World Health Organization’s Chagas disease control programme, celebrated for his holistic approach and strategic interventions in combating neglected tropical diseases.
  • Candela and Pulseras Candela: An inspiring grassroots initiative led by 11-year-old Candela, which has raised over four million euros for pediatric cancer research.

The ceremony featured a distinguished jury panel whose expertise and dedication were pivotal in selecting this year’s winners. ELLIS Alicante extends its gratitude to the jury members: Clara Campàs Moya, Joan X. Comella, Luis Ruiz-Avila, Mara Dierssen, Marta Aymerich, Montserrat Vendrell, Pedro Regull, Josep Tabernero MD, PhD, Miquel Marti, and Dra. Sara Marsal.
