SRIP Report 2022

The chapter of the European Commission’s SRIP 2022 Report explores both opportunities and challenges linked to the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) methods to address the sustainable development goals (SDGs). AI has the potential to improve our ability to measure and identify weaknesses, priorities and areas of improvement related to the SDGs, while accelerating their achievement. To realize such potential, five types of barriers need to be addressed (institutional, technical, ethical, financial and environmental) to effectively leverage the power of data-driven AI methods and accelerate their positive impact on the SDGs.
