ELLIS Alicante publishes today its Activity Report for the year 2021. In this report, ELLIS Alicante summarizes the research work carried out on human-centric Artificial Intelligence, with a significant focus on the use of Artificial Intelligence to help alleviate the devastating global effects of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

With impact publications in the top 5% of the world, several international awards, dozens of invited talks and more than a hundred media appearances, the breadth and impact of the achievements collected in this report speak for themselves. In addition, they gain in significance if we consider that the coronavirus pandemic delayed the foundation’s operational start-up to October 2021. As of this date, ELLIS Alicante begins its journey with the inauguration of its laboratory in the Alicante Science Park and the hiring of its first researchers, management team and research support staff.

Therefore, 2021 marks the start of the exciting commitment of ELLIS Alicante to become the world leader in Artificial Intelligence research by and for the people. ELLIS Alicante is one of the 34 units that make up the pan-European ELLIS – European Laboratory of Learning and Intelligent Systems– network. All of them work together to push the state of the art in modern AI to maximize the positive economic and social impact that this discipline will have not only in Europe but also in the rest of the world.
