ELLIS Alicante has been selected by IRCAI within the Top 100 projects on the use of AI for sustainable development. IRCAI, the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence under the auspices of UNESCO, has highlighted the “excellence and originality” of the proposal presented by ELLIS Alicante, whose focus is performing scientific research on ethical and responsible AI for Social Good.

The presentation of the Global Top 100 International List of AI Solutions in SDGs took place yesterday, May 4th, 8:30am New York time, at the 8th Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs (STI Forum 2023). The online event was hosted by IRCAI and the Permanent Mission of Slovenia to the UN.

ELLIS Alicante (Spain), is one of the 39 units across 14 countries within ELLIS - the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems. It is the only ELLIS unit created from scratch as a non-profit research foundation focused on Human-Centric AI, i.e. ethical and responsible AI for Social Good.

This recognition places ELLIS Alicante at the heart of an interconnected global multidisciplinary and multisectoral community working on AI projects that promote and advance the achievement of the SDGs. The IRCAI Global 100 Report 2023 reports both the advances made to date and the challenges ahead. It showcases ELLIS Alicante alongside other institutions, such as nongovernmental organizations and non-profits, universities, startups, and multinational companies, working across the world and in different domains to achieve scalable, workable and implementable AI solutions to address the world’s most pressing challenges, such as healthcare access, poverty, hunger and climate change.
